Kurt Rosenwinkel & Eric Clapton “Big Road Blues”

In 2012 Eric Clapton came to the Village Vanguard to hear Kurt Rosenwinkel perform with his band, and subsequently invited him to perform at the 2013 Crossroads Guitar Festival – that year held in Madison Square Garden. The invitation was for Kurt to have a 20 minute set with his own band, to invite one special guest (it would be Allan Holdsworth performing Kurt’s “Gamma Band”), and Clapton himself would join Kurt on stage for 2 songs.

This video shows the final song in Kurt’s set – a blues entitled “Big Road Blues” – the other 2 songs that were performed were “Heavenly Bodies” (just Kurt and the group – this song is from the album “Star of Jupiter”) + Kurt’s arrangement of “If I Should Lose You” (from “Deep Song”) with a new vocal arrangement by Clapton. Also joining them on stage were: Aaron Parks (pia), Pete Rende (Hammond B3), Reuben Rogers (b) & Obed Calvaire (dr).
